Description

Who isn't fascinated by 'Wheeling' or 'English Wheeling' as everyone else in the world knows it. Transforming metal from a flat sheet into the beautiful compound curves the way Aston Martin, Bristol, Supermarine, Alvis and more used to do it. Now you can have a one day course in a small class, to obtain a good practical grounding in the technique. Format is as follows (but adjusts to suit the class):

9:30 Briefing.

9:45 How to set up a Wheel (very important).

10:15 Start wheeling - putting a curve into flat steel sheet.

11:15 Putting a compound curve into a sheet.

13:00 Buffet lunch supplied and a chance to natter with the other 'students'

13:30 Back to work, making a teardrop shape bonnet bulge in aluminium.

15:00 Forming variable compound curves and raising crowns.

16:30 Finish training and begin question time.

17:00 Depart with the samples you made.

Refreshments throughout the day.

PLEASE NOTE THE NEW VENUE IS BROOKLANDS TRANSPORT MUSEUM, which offers a number of advantages including the chance to get a view of some pretty rare machinery during the lunch break. The course is on a Saturday so the risk of hold-ups on the beloved M25 is minimised. You can book your course via the website. There are only 8 places per course, so sign up soon to avoid disappointment.  Other dates will be released when available, if none is shown in timings to suit you drop us a line we may be able to arrange one. If you are a club who can muster 8 members we can arrange your own day.

The course is based around a tried and trusted standard format, with the pupil creating two pattern parts which will enable them to obtain a good grounding in the technique. You can take the parts you make home with you. It suits all ages and both amateur and skilled metal workers who want to experience the technique.

PLEASE NOTE: You cannot bring your own panels to repair or manufacture, although the question and answer session will give you the opportunity to ask advice from our experts on how to go about this when you return home.
