Abington Tools was formed back in 1856 and has been making quality hand tools ever since. Thomas Mabbutt, who started the company, was an apprentice gunmaker and those precision skills and temperament were evident when he created his first adjustable spanner in 1881. Proud of his achievement, he named it the Abingdon ‘King Dick’ after his award winning British Bulldog and a legend was born.
It remained popular in car tool rolls for nearly a century and pristine examples still fetch high prices at auction. With a heritage stretching back that far, the tooling they have available is impressive and they can produce unusual sizes or types which larger companies have long abandoned. They believe they are the last company to be still making their spanners in England at their small, but flexible, works in Birmingham.
It wasn’t just the quality of the products that attracted us to them, but the availability of Imperial and even Whitworth sizes too. We hope you can find the item you are looking for from our stock below, but if there is something outside the range please let us know as tooling might well be available at the factory!
