Who isn't fascinated by 'Wheeling' or 'English Wheeling' as everyone else in the world knows it. Transforming metal from a flat sheet into the beautiful compound curves the way Aston Martin, Bristol, Supermarine, Alvis and more used to do it. Now you can have a one day course in a small class, to obtain a good practical grounding in the technique. (subject to change):
9:30 Briefing. (Please note, some literature states 8:30. We have changed to 9:30 by popular request to allow more travel time)
9:45 How to set up a Wheel (very important).
10:15 Start wheeling - putting a curve into flat sheet.
11.00 Time for Tea!
11:15 Putting a compound curve into a sheet.
13:00 Buffet lunch supplied. You will need it!
13:30 Back to work, making a teardrop shape.
15:00 Break to compare notes with the other 'Wheelers'.
15:15 Back to the wheel.
16:30 Finish training and begin question time.
17:00 Depart with the sample you made.
The venue is the incomparable Bicester Heritage, site of the now famous 'Sunday Scrambles' and home to some of the leading specialists in vehicle restoration and sale. You can book your course via the website by picking the date of your choice and checking out. You will be forwarded your confirmation within 72hours, together with details of suggested places to stay and visit in the area if travelling from afar. There are only 8 places per course, so sign up soon to avoid disappointment. Other dates will be released when available.
The course is based around a tried and trusted standard format, with the pupil creating one or two pattern parts which will enable them to obtain a good grounding in the technique. You can take the parts you make home with you.
